As a stage lighting manufacturer, we know that choosing the right lights for your KTV room, small bar, or home party can be confusing. You see all kinds of specs—brightness, colors, effects—but one factor is more critical than any other for creating the right impact: Beam Angle.
Getting the beam angle right means a stunning, professional-looking space. Getting it wrong means your lights, no matter how advanced, will fall flat.
What is Beam Angle?
In simple terms, the beam angle is the width of the light beam emitted from a fixture. It's measured in degrees (°).
Why is Beam Angle So Important for You?
The beam angle directly defines the look, feel, and suitability of the light for your space.
1. Sets the Atmosphere: A narrow beam creates intense, focused energy. A wide beam provides a relaxed, ambient vibe.
2. Determines Visual Punch: With the same power output, a narrower beam will appear brighter and have more powerful penetration through haze.
3. Matches Your Space Size: A wide beam in a tiny room will look weak and washed out. A narrow beam in a large hall might get lost and fail to fill the space.
A Guide to the Three Main Types of Beam Angles
1. Narrow Beam (15° - 25°)
· Also Known As: 'Beam lights,' 'pin spots.'
· Best For:
· Creating sharp, defined light beams that cut through the air.
· Highlighting a specific area or object (e.g., a dance floor center, a DJ booth).
· Adding dramatic, high-impact energy to a small space.
· This is for most KTV rooms and small to medium bars.
2. Medium Beam (26° - 45°)
Best For:
· It provides a great balance between a visible beam and a good coverage area.
· It can create patterns on walls and floors that are clear and well-defined.
3. Wide Beam (46° and above)
Best For:
· 'Washing' walls, ceilings, or backdrops with color to create a general ambient atmosphere.
· Lighting up low-ceilinged rooms without creating an overly intense hot spot.
Quick Selection Guide
Narrow 15°- 25° Dance floors, beam effects, highlighting
Medium 26°- 45° KTV rooms, small bars (most universal)
Wide 46°+ Wall washing, ambient mood, low ceilings
